No. Your tax return is not send electronically until you get to the screen with the TRANSMIT MY RETURNS NOW button, and click that button. Once you have transmitted your return, you will receive two emails.
The first email arrives 15-20 minutes after you have successfully transmitted your tax return. All that e-mail does is confirm you *successfully* transmitted it. It does NOT mean the IRS has received it.
The 2nd email arrives 20 minutes to 48 hours later, and will tell you if your transmitted return was accepted, or rejected by the IRS. If rejected, follow instructions in the e-mail to fix the problem, then transmit your return again. If that 2nd email informs you that your return was accepted by the IRS, then KEEP THAT EMAIL FOREVER! It's the only proof you have that the IRS did *in fact* receive and accept your return. So if they say later they never got it, and you don't have that e-mail, then YOU LOSE. There's three things to remember when it comes to dealing with the IRS.
1) You are guilty until proven innocent
2) The burden of proof lies on the accused (not the accuser)
3) If it's not in writing, then it did not occur.
