After I filed my 2019 taxes, I waited for more than 4 weeks and didn't get my direct deposit refund.
I checked my “Refund Status” online on the IRS website. I was very surprised to find out that I owe over $1000 instead of on receiving more than $4500 refund . It says TAKE ACTION,
It says: “Detailed information concerning a change we made to your tax return is not available here.
Please call and talk to one of our representatives or wait for the notice we sent you for more information”
I called the IRS at [phone number removed], nswering machine answered and said that because of the “At this time we are unable to provide live assistance due to reduced staff level…you may continue to use our self service tools on the IRS website for the latest information…coronavirus…)
I didn't receive a notice yet, I created an IRS account and digged inside to see what is the problem.
I found out that the computer system at the IRS didn't accept the 6000$ tax credit for my kids, I went online and used the automatic tool to check if I'm eligible for the child credit and I confirmed I'm eligible. So because I don't want to have problems with the IRS, I transferred the amount they are claiming from my debit account.
So why the IRS didn't recognize my child credit, although my TurboTax filing conformed that I'm eligible and auto calculate my refund, Turbotax says:“The calculation on your return are backed with our 100% Accuracy Guarantee”
What should I do since I cannot talk to IRS because they don't accept calls?

I couldn't open the message, I have TurboTax Deluxe so I paid for my filing, to see the answer they are asking me to call, and when I called the automatic system said I have to pay....excuse me?! TurboTax has caused a problem with the IRS after they said their calculation is 100%, and I paid the TurboTax Deluxe to be in peace of mind, and when I asked a question to solve my problem ...they asked me to pay??? !!!! Too bad

TurboTax calculated my Tax return and the refund was over 4500$, the filing was accepted, by the IRS said that I owe them over 1000$, there I a discrepancy between TurboTax and IRS and I explained the details in my first message...but Turbo tax instead of answering my question they asked me to pay.... good job!
Your first post said that you were eligible for the child tax credit, but the IRS denied it, but we do not know the reason that the IRS denied it. That might be an IRS error that only you can talk to the IRS about or possibly you were mistaken and did not qualify for the credit in the first place.
$6,000 credit implies that yiu have 3 Qualifying Child dependents under the age of 17 and you tax liability (1040 line 11b) is more then $6000. The credit phases out with high income.
Why do you think you were eligible for the credit?
And the IRS does make mistakes. The IRS letter should have told you how to dispute it.
Unfortunately Due to the Corona virus the IRS is operating short staffed and phone service is suspended so you will probably need to wait until the IRS returns to normal to get any answers.
=====================================================================
For the child tax credit of $2,000 per child.
The child must have been no older than 16 at the end of 2019.
The amount of child tax credit you can receive is limited by your taxable income (1040 line 11a)
If your taxable income is zero, then you are not eligible for any child tax credit.
However, if you do not qualify for the Child Tax Credit, and if your earned income is greater than $2,500, you might be eligible for the Additional Child Tax credit. That amount is 15% of earned income greater then $2,500 up to a maximum of $1,400.
Too high of an income will reduce or eliminate the CTC also.
Married Filing Joint - $400,000
Single, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separate-- $200,000
The child tax credit will be reported on lone 13a on the 1040 form. Additional Child tax credit on line 18b on the 1040 form.
Until the IRS sends out the notice you may not know why the CTC was disallowed ... most likely it was because the kids were already claimed on another return. If you disagree with the notice when it arrives there will be instructions on how to respond.
Thanks for replying
so I created an account in IRS.GOV and I used their tool to check the eligibility of the CTC, I’m eligible , my 3 kids are under 12 and They are not claimed by anybody else, I filed jointly with my wife. And my income is working the eligible conditions.
I tried to call the IRS multiple time but they said that we cannot talk to live person because they reduced their staff because of the Coronavirus situation.
I downloaded the transcript from the IRS website and I saw that the problem is: I put 6000$ for CTC but their computer put Zero!
i don’t know why!
My tax filing is really easy, W2 numbers and standards deduction ... not complicated
