After filing, I received two text confirmations from the IRS and State (4 total) saying return accepted, one with my middle initial, one without. Is this normal?

As in, one said "Great News John X. Doe, Your return was accepted" the other said "Great News John Doe, Your return was accepted" which came a few hours later.

Not "normal", but I don't think I'd worry much about it.  Did you receive the two federal confirmations at the same time, and then the two state confirmations an hour later?

They came about 6 hours apart.. 

2pm (IRS with middle initial)

8pm (State with middle initial)

2am (IRS confirmation without middle initial)

2pm (State confirmation without middle initial)

Very strange.  I don't know how long ago you filed, or if you have a refund coming, but you may want to check on irs.gov to see that they show your return as being processed.
