I have tried this thrice with the same results. The blue line moves across my screen indicating successful progress. Once it is 100% "complete," the screen states that, for both personal information and financial information, the transfer has been successfully completed. Unfortunately, once I start on the 2024 tax return, I am told to enter my first name because it never made it into the new return. I have checked, and NONE of the personal information has been used to populate the 2024 tax return. So, I expect the same issues with the financial information which is more challenging to address. Any explanation why the software would think it has successfully completed a task when it hasn't? Any workarounds or suggestions? This is such a time-waster!!!

A pdf does not transfer much of anything. You need the .tax2023 file That is the one that will have all of the data you want to move into your 2024 return. Search your computer again for that one.
The pdf only transfers basic personal info like your name, address, ssn and AGI. Don't know why you didn't even get the personal info. Where did you get the pdf? Did you use Turbo Tax last year?
If you used Turbo Tax last year you really need to transfer from the .tax2023 data file. Can you find it? It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2023.
Here's an idea. Do you still have 2023 installed? Try opening 2023 program and see if you can get your 2023 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. And see if that is the right one.
In the 2023 program do a File-Save AS and give it a easy name you can find or search for. And note where it saves it or select where to save it so you can find it again. The file will end in .tax2023. Then close the 2023 program. Then start a new 2024 return and transfer from the 2023 file.
How to transfer last year’s return?
And....that transfer must be done at the very beginning---before you start to enter any new 2024 information. So if you are going to transfer, start the return over.
