2024 tax refund status

My 2024 tax return was accepted by the IRS on 2/8/25. I have checked Where's My Refund on the IRS website every day and it has said the same thing up until yesterday. "Return Accepted: Your refund is still being processed. A refund date will be provided soon."

I called the IRS Monday 3/3/25 and after being on hold for one hour, she proceeds to tell me that my refund has a hold that was placed on 2/24/25 and she supposedly "did not know what the hold is for" and said it could take up to an additional 16 weeks! How ridiculous! I did not have the EITC or the Child Tax Credit or any other complex credit or form. I just tried to check my refund status on Where's My Refund and now it says my information cannot be found. I have triple checked to make sure I entered the correct SSN, filing year, refund amount, etc. And everything is correct. Why did my information disappear now that I have called to complain? The IRS is a joke and I'm glad there are people poking their nose into their shady wrongdoings.

2024 tax refund status

Unfortunately, TurboTax has no control over the IRS processing system.

  • Since you tried to check the refund status on Where's My Refund and it says your information cannot be found is of concern.
  • You may get a tax notice.
  • If you don't get a notice the only alternative is to call again.
  • I would expect it will take at least as long to get through.

You can call toll-free at 800-829-1040
