You don't get to transfer in the prior year if you don't have the .tax2024 datafile anymore.

But most people don't really need it...and having your printed documents is great for whatever you might actually need. Usually

1)   For E-filing, you need either the AGI from line 11of the 2024 file...or the PIN you might have used last year.

2)  IF you used Itemized deductions on Federal last year, and if you received a State refund last year, then you'll need some info from your printed copies to determine if some or all of the state refund is now considered Federla incoem for 2025.  But if you use the Std Ded last year, none of any state refund is taxable income for Fed this year.

3)  Certain carryover credits might be needed this year, but those should be part of your tax papers form last year....like sometimes people who do Home Energy upgrades to their home...they sometimes can't sue all of it, and have some carryover.

4) Self employed folks sometimes have more trouble without the prior tax file transfer....things like Capital equipment depreciation....or Depreciation $$ for folks who own Rental properties.

____

But most thongs actually needed will be in your printed copies from last year.   You just won't have any 2- or 5-yr tax History reports to vies.

Since you have hard copies of your 2024-tax year documents, you can reconstruct your 2024 data needed to file your 2025 return without the digital file.

If you used the TurboTax Desktop software, search your hard drive for files named with extensions .tax2024, .tax. Look in your Documents\TurboTax folder.

You can also use the IRS Get Transcript Online tool to download a Tax Return Transcript if you need to confirm your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), which you will need for e-filing.

If you do not have an IRS Online Account you can create one using this link: IRS Online Account.

If you need an exact copy of the filed return, complete IRS Form 4506. There is a $43 fee per return.
