2024 tax data not showing in 2025 return; windows platform, premier desktop

2024 data completely intact. copied 2024 TT file into 2025 folder. Launched TT - no effect.

How do I direct 2025 version to go pickup the 2024 data?

TurboTax Desktop for Windows will transfer last year's tax data file (.tax2024 file) or PDF from the 2024 version of TurboTax Desktop or Online.  To transfer your 2024 return to 2025, follow these instructions from this TurboTax Article:

1. Launch TurboTax 2025 and click Start a New Return (or go to File and select New Tax Return).  Don't select Continue, as transferring is only available on new, empty returns.
2. Select the Transfer Return button on the Good News! screen. You can also select Browse and in the pop-up window, select All Files (*.*) from the dropdown menu. Then browse to wherever you stored your 2024 return and select Open.
3. Still can't find it? It might be on another computer. See this article for help in moving it to this computer.
4. Follow any onscreen instructions. We'll give you opportunities to review, edit, or delete transferred info later on.

Note: Once you've gone past the Transfer screens, you can't go back to revisit them. If you need to redo your transfer, go back to step 1 to start over with a new return.

Many thanks! However, I have already almost completed the 2025 return and would like to see the side by side comparison to 2024.

Is there a mechanism that would allow this?

If you transferred your 2024 return into 2025, on the Income/Deductions topic pages, you should see your 2024 amounts next to your 2025 amounts.  TurboTax prompts with 'Needs Review' for any topics you haven't visited in 2025 that appeared on your 2024 return.  You'll also see a comparison between years in the Review section. 

You can compare PDFs for each year side by side for more detail.
