Assuming that you are referring to the 2022 federal tax return Form 1040 -
Lines 5a and 5b would only be completed if you entered a Form 1099-R. The amount from box 1 of the 1099-R would flow to Line 5a and the amount from box 2a of the 1099-R would flow to Line 5b.
Line 6a is based on the amount from box 5 of the SSA-1099 you entered for Social Security benefits received. Line 6b is a calculated number for the taxable amount of the SS benefits received.
Up to 85% of Social Security Retirement/Disability/Survivors benefits becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security reaches:
Married Filing Jointly - $32,000
Single or Head of Household - $25,000
Married Filing Separately - 0
Not sure what you mean by "page 2 line 9".
Line 9 is on page 1 of the Form 1040 and is your total income, so is the sum of lines 1z, 2b, 3b, 4b, 5b, 6b, 7, and 8.
Lines 5a & 6a are only populated when the amounts to go on those lines are different from what goes on lines 5b & 6b.
