I am using turbotax premiere 2020 to amend my 2020 return. I started the program and specified "amend a filed return" and then browsed for my saved *.tax2020. I said yes I filed my return and "I need to amend my 2020 return", then "continue". After clicking continue, the monitor is supposed to show zero amounts for federal and state. State is correct showing $0, but federal always shows $10,549 even after I finish making my changes.
But even with no changes made, it should show zero amounts if I just started and not made any changes yet. My s/w is up to date, and the tax file I imported for amend opens with correct federal & state amounts when I'm not amending, same as I had filed. But if amending, it should not start showing a $10K refund, it should be zero. Any help appreciated.
I suggest you print out the form 1040-X and examine it. The left column should show the numbers from your form 1040 that you filed. The middle column should show the changes made when you amended your return, and the right column will show the amended totals. You need to examine the first two columns to see if everything is stated properly, then go to the applicable sections in TurboTax that need attention.
