If you opened your return after filing and changed even one small number (perhaps to "see what would happen" or to test a deduction) before clicking the "Amend" button, TurboTax now thinks that "changed" version is your original. When you then start the amendment, it pulls those "in-progress" numbers into Column A.
If you are certain you didn't touch the file before amending, it's possible there were software updates after the time you filed and before you amended. The new calculation (especially for complex credits like the Premium Tax Credit) might retroactively apply to your "Original" column, causing a mismatch with what you actually e-filed months ago.
To fix this, go into Forms Mode, open the 1040X Worksheet, and manually correct the figures in Column A to match your original 'as-filed' return. This ensures the software calculates the 'Change' (Column B) correctly based on the 'Correct Amount' (Column C)."
So, with the rep on the phone and myself looking at my computer we discovered the software had duplicated a number on the Schedule D form. Again, I did not touch or enter any data other than "amend my return and picked 1099-R to fix". Instead of seeing $0 to begin with, it showed a large about due immediately before I even opened the 1099-R. Because the software Turbotax is using online does not allow you to manually see any forms anymore, we had to enter my 1099-R changes and go all the way to filing whereas you can finally see where this $ amount owed was located. Once I verified that it was a bogus amount and went back to the Schedule D portion (still not able to go to the form :( again) and removed it. The numbers were correct upon further review. The rep agreed there was an issue on how it (the program) inputted an amount that was not there on the original 2025 Schedule D form. I sure wish Turbotax would go back to letting us see the forms as we fill out the Q&A program. It was filed and accepted.
