I received late K1 and 1099-INT forms for 2019. I want to file an amended return in TT, but those items don't show up on the list of things that I can change when I select the amended return button. How do I use TT to file an amended return with these items?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
When you are accessing the amended tax return -
To report interest income received -
Or enter interest income in the Search box locate in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to interest income
To enter a Schedule K-1
Or enter k-1 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to k-1
Thanks for this information. I used it to put in the data for the amended return but now when I do the review it tells me that the overpayment is marked as estimated on the 1040X. I didn't put in any number for overpayment, and the number in the box doesn't show up anywhere on my original return or in the amended file. I'm not sure how this was generated or what I should do with it. Do I just make it zero and continue?
Ok ... so did you get the original refund yet ??? If not you must wait to file the amended return ... when you are ready to file it switch to the FORMS mode and confirm you got the original amount or enter any changes if needed. Starting 8/17 the IRS will allow amended returns to be efiled ... don't know when TT will allow it but since the paper forms are taking more than 4 months to process I would wait.
Review the form 1040X …
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
