1040X and 1099-B

Ned to amend my 2018 return with simply the proceeds versus cost basis  on 1040X.  However, if i do 1040X manually, it is not calculating the tax rate, and beyondd that I cannot determine how to do this.  Do I need to upgrade my version?  any help is appreciated.  I have been at this for two days, extremely frustrated with this company

You can enter the proceeds and cost basis from the summary of all the transactions in the Investment Income section of the program.

To enter an investment sale from a brokerage account (1099-B), follow the steps below.

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Investment Income
  • On Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other, click the start or update button

Select the option I'll type it in myself

Select the option I'll enter a summary for each sales category

Enter the Total Proceeds and the Total Cost Basis

Select the Sale Category from the dropdown

Do this for each type of sale if you have more than one.

When finished with entering your Summaries, then on the screen that state Here are all the sales...

Click on the highlighted statement mailing instructions

You will mail the brokerage statements, Form 1099-B, with the amended tax return.
