I'm.wondering the same exact thing. I already have a checking account but I saw that so I took them up on the offer. I am going to be so super bummed if I don't get it.
Why did I get an invitation of a $50 only bonus? I spent more than $100 on Turbotax every year. 😤😤😤
Update
I followed all steps
My direct deposit of 5% of my paycheck was sufficient. I got my $100 today. It will work, just follow all steps. Anytime you are offered "free money" ALWAYS read the fine print !!!
The day I filed my taxes was the day I changed my direct deposit to make sure it happened fast. My taxes hit last week, the $100 came the following week.
Not only will I not receive the $100 because I wont be going through the hassle of changing my employer direct deposit but I will have to make 6 separate trips to the ATM for 6 separate days to cash out my tax refund using CK's debit card which by the way is taking just as long to arrive in the mail as my refund would have if I simply chose to deposit it directly to my bank account from TurboTax. All this because their partner, Plaid, doesn't support my Credit Union in their list of banks that can be linked to a Money Spend account. What a huge hassle and a waste of time and money. I already filed a complaint about this matter but I doubt that Credit Karma will do anything to help with it.
Also try not being able to link to your bank account and then having to make several trips to the ATM to cashout all the money.
You can link your bank account? I have been transferring money between my credit karma money and my banks checking and savings accounts. My savings account funds my seedfi account.
I absolutely detest Credit Karma and Turbo Tax for this sham. Ever heard of "Loss Aversion". I actually believed that I would be receiving a bonus along with my very small tax return. I had already formed a psychological attachment to it. Now I have to "get over" the fact that the money was never mine in the first place. I was hoodwinked. I will never forget this, and I'm not sure if I'll be using Turbo Tax in the future; and if I do I certainly won't trust them if they promise any kind of bonus. They shouldn't have made the print so small. Honestly, they were probably well aware of how many people would be upset by this. They should have also considered the "negativity bias". The people who feel cheated won't forget. This will be a blemish on their reputation.
They sent me this after I mentioned something:
The big question is what is a qualifying direct deposit? I've had $1 direct deposited into my account since I opened it and sent my tax refund there.
Some have posted doing a $1 DD from a checking account to the CK account and it worked ... here are the exact wording that is posted ... for any other information contact CK directly.
You should never form a "psychological attachment" to money that you haven't received. You must have never heard the saying "never count your eggs before they hatch". The terms and conditions were listed on the offer and it's not Turbo Tax's fault nor CK's fault that people don't read the terms and conditions. As adults in today's society, we should know the importance of reading the fine print. Credit Karma did not scam anyone, if you completed the terms and conditions, $100 was deposited. This situation shouldn't blemish the company's reputation, instead, it should be taken as a learning experience for everyone to read the terms and conditions to ensure you qualify and complete the steps to receive the offer.
Ummm I did read the fine print and followed all the directions. CK said that I qualified for the $100. They said that they would deposit it before June 5th. So maybe…
Would have been nice if they also included which banks are supported by Plaid so we don't end up having to waste time signing up for a CK account for the sole purpose of getting the $100 which we may are may not qualify for.
Too reply Shantai I did meet all the requirements and still have yet too recieve my said bonus and have contacted all the agencies that are involved and still have yet too recieve anything so as far as assuming that we don't know how too read shame on you and shame on you for thinking that no one knows that small print exists. But thanks anyway
Looks like the mods are deleting these comments but the tax refund being an ach deposit IS a direct deposit. It's ACH and unless you change that direct deposit your next irs check direct deposited there as well. I was informed this by the IRS the wording is just there to misdirect us enough to not be surprised when they rip us off.
