Question

Why the return only shows my husband's 1040 after I changed filing status from MFJ to MFS?

I have entered both husband and wife income and deductions in Turbo. I am trying to figure out whether MFJ or MFS would give us the most tax benefit. Firstly I used MFJ to create a return. Then I changed the filing status to MFS. The return only shows my husband's name. In addition, most of the deduction were taken on his return. Where is my return? I expect Turbo tax would know how to split the deduction because all the information is in the Turbo already. What did I do wrong?

Sorry but the ONLINE program is not so sophisticated ... you must split all the deductions yourself. And it will not show your return at all ...it only shows the primary taxpayers return ....  to do your return  you have to start another account OR use the Downloaded version which has the ability to do "what if scenarios".

Be very careful now ... when you switch back to MFJ you must review all the screens to make sure all the income & expenses are under the correct spouses since that can cause other errors later.
