Once your return is accepted, the next step is for the government to approve your refund.  It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks for your return to go from accepted to approved.

IRS representatives will be able to research the status of your refund if your return was accepted (received) more than 21 calendar days ago. Call them at 1-800-829-1040, but prepare for potentially long wait times.

It can take up to 21 calendar days (sometimes a little longer) after your return is accepted before you receive your refund from the IRS. The IRS is the only entity that has insight into why your return may be delaying. Continue to check the status by using the Where's My Refund Tool located at the IRS website.
