Tax Forms Delivered to Wrong Address by USPS
I took two pieces of tax related mail to the local post office to be mailed by Certified Mail;
- one, form 3520, to an IRS PO Box in Utah and the other
- a MA filing (with a refund due) from my wife, to MA Dept of Revenue PO Box
- both envelopes and Certified Mail slips were filled-out correctly. I have the receipts.
On checking the USPS on-line tracking site, I see that each piece of mail is going to the other address:
- USPS has delivered the Utah mail to the MA PO Box and
- the MA addressed mail is on it’s way to Utah!
I do not know what to do. I'm concerned about potential penalties if the IRS and/or MA DoR do not get their documents!
