Pay promptly to prevent interest charges from accumulating.

No, don't wait for an audit to pay you taxes. If you owe taxes on your recently filed return, you should pay those immediately. Ideally, they should be paid by the tax filing deadline (typically April 15) to avoid any penalties or interest.

what makes you think it will be audited, or do you mean processed? Audit signifies that the IRS will be doing a deeper than normal review of your return for omissions, discrepancies, and things that look out of whack.

in addition to interest, there is a 1/2% per month late payment penalty.
