@Jlmorgan

For most people the IRS will begin processing and accepting/rejecting efiled returns on January 29, 2024.  A few returns have been processed earlier for IRS testing purposes, but the general processing of returns opens tomorrow.   There can be a backlog once they open processing, and returns are pulled in batches from the various tax services, so you may or may not hear anything back on Monday

Your tax return goes into a pending status once you e-file it. Your tax return will stay in the pending status until the IRS starts processing returns which is January 29, 2024.

Review the TurboTax article for more information: What does Pending mean?

For most people the IRS will begin processing and accepting/rejecting efiled returns SOMETIME  on January 29, 2024.  A few returns have been processed earlier for IRS testing purposes, but the general processing of returns opens tomorrow.   There can be a backlog once they open processing, and returns are pulled in batches from the various tax services, so you may or may not hear anything back on Monday.

FYI ... the IRS has not accepted any returns in test batches  for the past 6 days so the backlog could  be significant and/or they may be having technical difficulties.
