My amended return was accepted 18 weeks ago and I have yet to receive my funds, how long are they expecting me to wait?

If you file your amended return electronically, you can use the Where's My Amended Return? online tool to check the status of your amended return.

if it was mailed figure 6 to 9 months because the IRS is so far behind in reviewing paper returns.

@lukeypenn Assume that amendments are taking 9-12 months to process. this is from the IRS website: (note they state 'more than 20' and that has no upper limit)

Status of Processing Form 1040-X, Amended Individual Tax Return: As of June 25, 2022, we had 2 million unprocessed Forms 1040-X. We are processing these returns in the order received and are working hard to get through the inventory. The current timeframe can be more than 20 weeks instead of up to 16. Please don't file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your amended return. Taxpayers should continue to check Where's My Amended Return? for the most up to date processing status available.
