Accepted means your tax return was received and has passed initial inspection. Generally, amended returns take up to 20 weeks to process, and the IRS is currently processing amended returns filed in March 2026. This does not include those that require error correction or other special handling. We generally process paper returns where a refund is expected before all other returns.
