Mailing Return to Federal and State Government

I filed my 2020 taxes late and had to use a downloadable software from Turbo Tax since it was too late to E-file.  I am getting ready to mail my return to the federal and state governments now.  Do I need to sign anything or did the program do all of that for me?  What should I make sure of before sending, if anything?  I am afraid I will do something incorrectly causing my return to be rejected or audited.

    @dbtischer - read THE INSTRUCTIONS that print out along with the return.

    note that for the federal return, it'll probably take 6-9 months for them to process it.

    You have to sign both the federal and state tax returns. TurboTax cannot sign your tax returns for you. The signature space on the federal tax return is near the bottom of page 2 of Form 1040. The location of the signature on the state tax return varies. Every state has different forms.

    You have to attach to your federal tax return copies of all your W-2s and any W-2G or 1099-R that has federal tax withheld. Each state has different requirements for what has to be attached or included. As NCperson said, check the filing instructions.

    The federal and state tax returns have to be mailed in separate envelopes, to different addresses. It's not required, but we strongly recommend that you mail them by a method that provides tracking and confirmation of delivery, such as certified mail with a return receipt. That's the only way that you will be able to confirm that they were delivered.

    @dbtischer

    Always print a copy of your completed tax return for your records, and review it carefully before e-Filing (or mailing).
    You will need it if you are audited by the IRS or state, or to amend if a TurboTax update changes your return or for any other reason,

    AND, to find your AGI next year.
