Solved

If you owe for a previous year do you have to file your return you get for the following year? Is there a way to add your new w2 to next years until you pay what is owed?

You sound a bit confused.  If you have taxable income for 2017, then you need to file a 2017 tax return.  If you still owe back taxes for a previous year, then the IRS will seize your 2017 refund to pay those back taxes.  You do not have to enter anything on your tax return about it.  The IRS knows and will take care of it automatically.

Your response makes sense. Thank you I am so confused trying to help my fiance out owes 6k from 2015 that he made a mistake filing his w2. He was given two w2's and forgot to file the other. Last year is when he received the letter from the irs. So if he files 2017 w2 it will go straight toward what's owed? I hope this makes sense.lol.
