Question

If my irs.gov account doesn’t have a status bar. Just says being processed, a refund date will be provided when available. What does this mean?

It means they are still processing and evaluating your return.   The IRS says 9 out of 10 filers who efile and choose direct deposit will get their refunds within 21 days. Some returns are processed fairly quickly, while others require additional processing due to specific items in the return. Some are pulled at random for more thorough investigation.

You can continue monitoring occasionally at the IRS WMR website.  If it shows "processing" longer than 21 days, we can tell you how to phone a live agent at the IRS to inquire as to the reason for the delay.  However, see the following paragraph where the "up to 21-day normal" does not apply:

NOTE: By law (the PATH Act), the IRS will not begin issuing refunds on tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit until after February 15. So filers with those credits likely won't get their refunds until late February, or in some cases, early March.

I added a paragraph to my comment above explaining a circumstance in which the "up to 21-day normal/average" does not apply.   If you have Earned Income Credit (EIC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) you are subject to a delay as mandated by the PATH Act.   The IRS will not begin issuing refunds on those returns with those credits until after February 15.  So filers with those credits likely won't get their refunds until late February, or in some cases, early March.
