I wanted to print a draft of my return so I selected paper filing. Now I want to actually file, can only use "amend" to get a 1040X. I want to print a 1040 instead. How?

To get back in to your return click on Add a State. Then go through the FILE section and choose to print for maiing. BE aware that it will take the IRS a long time to process your mailed tax return. They are currently working on opening millions of pieces of mail that piled up during the pandemic, so your envelope will be sitting in a pile of mail for a long time.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
