They should be sending you a letter explaining it. Could be many reasons. Was it the same amount as a tax due you paid or can you find that amount on your tax return? Check all the amounts on the return. Maybe you entered a decimal point in the wrong spot.

Did you have a tax due or refund on your original return? If you had a tax due you might have paid it twice, check your bank statement. How did you pay it? I've seen a couple posts saying they paid a tax due by check then it was also auto debited from their account.

Or you forgot to enter a payment like an estimated payment or withholding?
