Question

I received a notice that Louisiana has amended my return due to an incorrect value from TurboTax (Line 8B). Do I need to fix my return within TurboTax?

The standard federal deduction for 2020 is $12,400, but the amount that TurboTax used on the return was $12,200.  This has caused a $12 reduction in my tax refund (due to itemized deductions).  How can I correct my Louisiana return within TurboTax so that my refund is correct when I import everything next year.

No, you don't have to correct your 2020 LA income tax return unless the $12 is part of your state income tax refund you applied to your 2021 income tax return.

To correct the $12 issue, you could amend your tax returns but not file them. This way, when you transfer your 2020 tax information to your 2021 income tax return, you'll get the correct amounts.

So did I, and what a surprise to see that a loss from Federal was generated on State as a + !!!!

So having to amend and turbotax does not have updated forms yet, so to the State Website I go to do an AMENDED return on paper.

No, you don't have to correct your 2020 LA income tax return.  It has been corrected by the LA tax administration unless they specifically asked you to submit something.

To correct the issue, for next year you could amend your tax returns but not file them. This way, when you transfer your 2020 tax information to your 2021 income tax return, you'll get the correct amounts.
