Question

I quit my job 3 months ago and they haven’t sent a w2 yet, I’m wondering if I should wait and see if they send a W2 I’m just a bit confused as I’ve never did taxes before

They’ve not contacted me to inform me of a W2 so I’m not sure if I’m goin got get one but I’ve never had one before.

    Yes, you should wait for your W-2 before you file.  It's very important to have all of your information before your complete your tax return.

     

    There are a couple of things you can do.

    1. Contact the employer to ask when the W-2 will be received. Best action.
    2. Gather your pay stubs so that you can create a W-2, only if you have to because you didn't receive one.  

    Keep in mind that your employer does have until the end of January to provide the W-2s.  Try contacting them as soon as possible, it may be waiting for you.  If you don't receive it by February 5th, post another question here and we can provide instructions on creating a substitute with your pay stubs.

    Most W-2s are not issued yet.

    IRS says:

    if you don't get your W-2 by Feb 14, contact the IRS.

    IRS will tell you how to proceed.
