Not sure what instructions you tried to follow.   Do not send in an amended return until your original return has ben FULLY processed.

How do I amend my 2019 TurboTax Online return?

You have to sign onto your 2019 TurboTax online account with the exact same User ID you used to complete and File the 2019 tax return - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

If you completed and filed the 2019 federal tax return using the online editions the status of the federal tax return will be displayed on the Tax Home web page.  The status of the e-filed tax return must show as Accepted before you can start an amended tax return.

The option to Amend the 2019 tax return will be on the Tax Home web page.

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on 2019 and Click on Amend (change) return

An amended tax return, Form 1040X, can only be printed, signed, dated and mailed by you to the IRS or it can be e-filed if your original tax return was e-filed. The IRS will take up to 4 months to process the amended tax return. Wait until you have received the tax refund or the taxes owed have been paid and processed by the IRS before amending the tax return.

@Hekuttler2007  If you are looking to amend your prior year tax return, please see DoninGA's post above for instructions.

If you are looking to amend this years tax return, see the instructions below:

If you have already e-filed or mailed the return, then you will need to wait until the IRS has accepted or rejected that return before you can make any changes.

  • If they reject it, then you can make the needed changes and re-submit the return.  How do I fix a rejected return?

  • If they accept it, then you will need to wait until you have received your refund, if applicable, and then amend that return to make changes, if needed. Amended returns have to be printed and mailed in and take up to 16 weeks to be processed.

If accepted, wait until you have received your refund or taxes due paid, then you can go here for instructions on amending your return.
