I need to amend my 2017 tax return. An employer mis-classified me as a contractor, and the IRS has since determined I was an employee. How do I fill out a new 1040 that classifies the contractor income as wages, and calculates the proper taxes for this change? Will these numbers automatically transfer to a 1040X form?

If you have received a determination letter from the IRS, use the instructions in the link below to amend your 2017 tax return. You will remove the self-employment income and replace that income with ''Other reportable wages'' under the Miscellaneous Income section.

You will click through the screens in that section until you come to a screen titled Employee Compensation Not Reported on a W-2, see attached. You will be prompted to enter a code which reflects the status of your SS-8 determination and the date of the letter.

And yes, TurboTax will calculate all of the taxes and prepare Form 8919 for you. How to access and amend your 2017 return
