It depends on which version of TurboTax you are currently using, as the buttons and menus look different if you are in the Online browser version versus the Desktop software installed on your computer.

If you are using TurboTax Online, follow these steps:

Scroll down to the bottom of your Tax Home page to find the section titled Your tax returns & documents.
Open the dropdown menu for the year you need to change and select Amend (change) return to start Form 1040-X.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you must open the specific year's software (e.g., use the 2024 program to amend a 2024 return) and select Amend a Filed Return from the main landing page.

If the software version you purchased includes Live Tax Advice, you can talk to a tax expert by using the Live Help or Expert Help button located in the upper or lower right hand side of your screen.

Select Expert help.

Select Connect with expert help in the chat window.

Enter your tax question or tax topic area and select Continue.

Select your preferred method for connecting with a tax expert.
