I got a letter saying my fed tab return wasn't deposited..I asked for paper check?

Refunds by check are being discouraged. The IRS wants taxpayers to have an account for direct deposit. If you don’t do that they will send you a check but it might take many months to get it.

@texastam7088 , just adding to my colleague @Bsch4477 excellent reply -- IRS will send you a notice CP 53E, asking for bank details. If no bank details are provided then approx. six week later you will indeed get a paper check.
