I got a letter from IRS telling me to report this income as income on my return. It’s an interest income from the IRS. How do I do this?

Enter interest income in the Search box locate in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to interest income

On the screen Did you receive any interest income? Click on Yes

On the next screen click on Continue

On the screen Let's import your tax info Click on Change how I enter my form

On the screen How do you want to add your 1099‑INT? Click on Type it in myself

Enter IRS for the name of the payer and enter the amount of interest received in box 1 of the 1099-INT

Since the IRS cannot seem to actually follow their own rules and issue a standard 1099-INT form you have to wing it ... go to the interest income section and enter the payer as IRS and enter the amount.
