I forgot to file a w2 from a previous year

I live and work in NYC and worked in California for a few months in 2016. I did not think or knew that I would receive a w2 for those few months based out of California. When I filed my taxes online and got a scheduled refund. I received my w2 and was told that I can file it with next years. I was wondering if that would affect me or make me pay back a lot for 2017?

A W-2 for tax year 2016 can only be filed with a 2016 tax return, not a future year.

You will need to amend the 2016 tax return that was filed to include the new W-2.

Go to this website to download the 2016 amend software - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/amend/ty16/

You will need to download the tax data file from the 2016 online account.

When you sign onto to your online account using the exact same user ID you used to create, complete and file the 2016 tax return you will land on the Welcome Home screen.  Click on My TurboTax at the top left of the program screen.  This will take you to the 2016 Timeline.  Under the section Some things you can do:  Click on Download .tax file

Or if you land on the Welcome Back screen click on the blue link Download your .tax file

Did you file a CA return for that W-2?
