I filled out my 1040x before I received my check from my original .How will this effect me? I haven't mailed anything yet.

When I used the 1040x in turbo tax it didn't give me a total or amount the amendment would be.Do I have to mail it to find out??

Its ok if you filled it out already, but hold off on mailing the amendment until you actually receive your first refund.  This is because you want to make sure you only have to amend once, so you want to be sure there are not any other issues with your return the IRS might find during processing.

As for your amounts for the amendment, TurboTax should have shown you during the process in the refund meter.  But, if you didn't see it - then look at the printed copy of the 1040X.  You will see an amount on either line 20 (if you owe taxes because of the amendment) or line 22 (if you are getting an additional refund).  Keep in mind that this amount is separate form your original return.  So, if you got a $1,000 refund from your original return and now it says you owe $100 on your amended return.  That means you just send $100 of the $1,000 back to them, not the whole $1,000 plus $100.  This is another reason to wait until you get your refund before mailing.  Also, amended returns take up to 16 weeks to process, so if you are getting a refund, don't expect that amount anytime soon (it will come in paper check form).
