I filed my return and it was accepted . However after it was accepted I received an email that said form 8917 for school tuition was available for me.

First, check to see if Form 8917 Tuition and Fees Deduction was included in the tax return you filed. There is a chance that the "availability notification email" came after the form was available to you within TurboTax. To do this, check Line 21 of Schedule 1 in your filed tax return. If there is an amount there, Form 8917 was included in your tax return. If not, check the forms in the tax return for Form 8917, in case it was included but did not result in a deduction for you.

If a Form 8917 was not included, and if you qualify for the Tuition and Fees Deduction, and if your return was already accepted by the IRS you will need to file an amended tax return to get the deduction.

If you need to amend, you should wait until your already-filed tax return has been processed (i.e., refund received or payment deducted from your bank account).
