Question

I am trying to Amend 2019 taxes from w2 to 1099misc. Why is my federal tax due more than half the refund amount that I NEVER received with my deductions and credits?

with a w-2 there is no self-employment tax. with a 1099-misc if it's for services rendered then in addition to the income taxes you pay an additional 15% in self-employment taxes.

It seems that the percentage is much more than 15%, more like 60%. And thats with deductions and credit. I’m not sure if the figures are an assumption of a refund received. I filed early February of 2020. No refund, After a year and 1 month later. I’ve made numerous attempts of reaching out to IRS. This has never happened before.

if you are amending ,

although not strictly correct, you can change the 1040X line 18 Overpayment  to  -0-

In Part III you can state you never got your original refund.

OR

go here to start a refund trace.
