Solved

I am currently amending my federal and state returns, and I've only changed that I can be claimed as a dependent. Why do I now owe money to my state?

Saying you can now be claimed as a dependent causes you to lose certain things your state may offer, such as a personal exemption for yourself, so you have more taxable income.  You may be paying back some of the refund you received before.

Amended returns have to be filed on paper in the mail, so after you print, you'll be able to see exactly what changed in the return.
