That depends, but here we can only give general guidelines to your situation.  If the return being audited was prepared in TurboTax, you may use the Audit Support, or if you purchased the upgrade, Audit Defense provisions to get specific assistance for your situation.  If you did not purchase Audit Defense, then you may visit our Audit Support Center to get started. The following FAQ provides additional information on how to use Audit Defense if you did purchase it:  https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4842227

That having been said, it may be possible to reconstruct your records.  This is often possible when the expenses are of an ordinary and necessary nature, and you can reasonably prove that you did in fact have the expenses in question.  If you can reasonably prove the items to the state, then they will be accepted and your return will not be changed.  However, if you cannot prove them satisfactorily, the state first will send you the proposed amount of additional tax (along with penalties and interest), and then later assess that amount.  But, by using either the Audit Support or Audit Defense tools, you will receive assistance in preparing for your audit.
