Question

Efiled got rejected. My son needs to amend and change to dependent. Probably in a month. Can I just wait on idle and try efile again next month after he completes?

Also if I file now, I owe.  If I file later with him as my dependent, i don't owe .

File with him as a dependent and mail your return. Amended returns can take many months to process.

Even if he amends it won't clear his ssn from the IRS database.  You have to print and mail your return now.  You don't have to wait.  You can claim him.

I'm don't think nor expect anything to move quickly.  Therefore, it seems only logical that I just file by mail late, no extension.  My sons tax preparer won't get to amending his until June anyways.  I think if I file by mail claiming him -  before the amending has even begun, it will open a great big can of worms as opposed to a smaller can for not filing on time.  When I file with him as dependent, I'm not owing, so IRS shouldn't care, right?

With this logic, will I live long and prosper?

No do not wait to file since you have to mail it this year.  You can claim him.
