Question

Do my federal and state refunds come separate or together? I got a refund direct deposited today and I am wondering if that is both or if Ill be getting another one?

The Federal and state refunds do not come together.  One comes from the US Treasury and the other from the State Treasurer's office.  The chance of them both hitting your bank account on the same day is small.

Then why does turbo tax charge extra to put them together? Like what’s the point and why pay extra? Also how much longer does state take then federal to deposit

Each state has different time-lines for processing and approving returns. Please click here  for a list of states and the website to track your state return.

So I am not positive why but I clicked on the button to have my state and federal at the same time not thinking clearly and my federal shows it being deposited today but it has not deposited yet and my state shows the 10th so which one will it be?

Being that your tax returns are processed by two separate entities, your refunds will arrive at different times. To keep track of your state return please click the link below and select your state.

That doesn’t answer the question as to why turbo tax  gives you the option of having bother federal and state deposited “together” and if you choose to do so, you are charged an extra fee. I was charged that extra fee and only my federal refund got deposited- what’s going on with that?

@htaylo15

STATE AND FEDERAL REFUNDS DO NOT ARRIVE TOGETHER

You misunderstood.  You did not pay for your federal and state refunds to arrive together.  You may have paid the "refund processing fee" to deduct your TurboTax fees from your federal refund, but that did not mean you would get federal and state refunds simultaneously.  Federal and state refunds come from two completely separate entities; it is not possible to coordinate their arrival together.

This posting from 9 minutes ago is the only posting I see for you.    Based on the title of this thread, I assume that's also your question.  The Federal refund and state refund come separately.   They are from 2 different tax agencies.

What is the State of California franchise tax board?

@Bryanrendon10 That is the state taxing authority for the state of CA--that is where you send your state tax return and that is who will send your state income tax refund or collect  the payment for your state tax due.
