Has something changed with Out of State Wage reporting in NJ?

I live in NJ and work in NY.  In previous years, Box 16 on my W2 for both NY and NJ were pretty close, maybe just a few thousand variance.  This year on my W2, Box 16 for NY shows an amount close to my federal number but Box 16 for NJ is showing less than half of my NY and federal number.  Is my W2 wrong or did something change with what gets reported on Box 16 for NJ?

No, there has not been any change in the reporting of NY wages for a NJ resident. You'll have to ask your employer to explain the amounts on your W-2. Normally box 16 for New York should be exactly equal to box 1 (federal wages), not just close. That is a New York requirement. If you worked only in New York, there shouldn't be a NJ line on your W-2 at all. You have no income from New Jersey. Was any NJ tax withheld (NJ box 17)? That would be the only reason to have a NJ line at all. It sounds like your W-2 is wrong, and your employer has been filling out your W-2 incorrectly for years.
