Filing taxes, question about garnished wages for retirement.

On Turbotax it's asking me:

Did you contribute to a qualified retirement plan?

  • Traditional or Roth IRA

  • SEP or SIMPLE IRA

  • 401(k), including designated Roth 401(k)

  • 403(b), including designated Roth 403(b)

  • Salary reduction SEP

  • Governmental 457 plan

  • Section 501(c)(18) (D) plan

  • A qualified plan, section 4974(c), including the federal Thrift Savings Plan

  • Contributions to an ABLE account, as defined in section 529A

I don't have a separate (personal) retirement savings plan, but I had my wages garnished for retirement (as all state workers do). Do I put "yes" or "no?"

You would answer No since you have your contributions taken out from the paychecks and the contributions are reported on the Form W-2, box 12.

You would only answer Yes to this question if you contributed to another plan, such as Traditional IRA.
