single vs HOH

so my yearly income was 17,000 (I only work partime) I have 2 kids that I will claim....I live with my boyfriend and he has paid most the bills this year. In the past I have always claimed HOH but this year he paid most of the bills. I would claim single this year. Would he also claim single or head of household? We have one child together but I claim him because I paid for daycare. Can two people that live in the same house both claim single? He doesn't really meet the requirements for HOH.

single vs HOH

Yes, both people living in the same household can claim single; and that's what you should file as if neither of you qualifies for the HOH.

Do I qualify for the Head of Household has some details if you'd like to read about it.
