Total cost to file Turbo Tax on line using the FREE version of Turbo which is not free. Using 1040

Why am I being charged 59.99 to file Fed taxes and 39.99 to file State taxes when I thought Fed was free? Don't mind paying something but when I go to send in my completed forms I think I see even an additional fee for something else. Do not understand. So am asking exactly how much will filing my taxes cost? I want to have direct deposit to my bank account for both Fed and State.

Doesn't Turbo Tax offer a  zero-filing fee for low income returns?

If you are eligible you can use the TurboTax Freedom Edition which is free to file both a federal and state tax return. The Freedom Edition is a full featured personal tax program and on a separate website from the TurboTax online editions.

To qualify for free 2017 federal and state tax returns in Freedom Edition, you'll need to meet at least one of these requirements:

  • A maximum 2017 adjusted gross income (AGI) of $33,000; or
You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); or
You served as active duty military (including Reservists and National Guard) with a maximum 2017 AGI of $66,000 (you'll also need a military-issued W-2).

I paid $59 for the software; $59.99 to file Federal and $39.99 to file state.  If the commercial advertises "FREE" why am I paying all these fees.  Also, the  software states you can file up to 5 Federal returns free and 1 state return free.  NOTHING IS FREE!  False Advertising

When I  used to buy the Turbo Tax C/D, it would cost less than $50.00 for both Federal and Arizona State.  When I went online this year, I thought the cost would be $30, but it was $119.  Why?????????
