How do I enter foreign tax credit from taxed paid on vested RSU's

Hi,

I work for the same company but I have some rsu's that vested and have paid tax for in another country.

How do i claim those as Foreign tax credit in Turbotax? There is an option to enter foreign income but it's just employer benefits and rent while away working ect, I see nothing on for RSU.

Do I deduct t he RSU amount from the w2?

To claim a foreign tax credit, here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Open up your TurboTax account and select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "foreign tax credit" and Enter
  • Select Jump to foreign tax credit
  • Follow prompts
  • On-screen, Choose the Income Type, make your selection or list as "Passive Income" and follow prompts
  • See the image below

I have the same question. This answer doesn't seem to apply for the current TT interface.

Also, could someone verify the answer.

In the deductions and credits section of the program, you will find foreign taxes under Estimates and Other Taxes Paid. You can also use the jump to link for "foreign tax paid". In the top right corner, locate the Magnifying glass/search  and enter the exact words foreign tax paid.  Let me help you start the 1116.

  1. Log into your return
  2. Select Pick Up Where I Left Off
  3. In the top right corner, locate the Magnifying glass/search  enter the exact words foreign tax paid
  4. Enter
  5. Select the first entry Jump to foreign tax paid
  6. Did you pay foreign tax, select yes
  7. Before we Begin screen, make sure all income is already entered before proceeding, select yes
  8. Continue
  9. Select None of these apply, continue
  10. Foreign taxes, Continue
  11. Do you want deduction or credit? Select TAKE A CREDIT, if you are itemizing, you may want to try it both ways.
  12. Reporting, continue
  13. No other income, select No
  14. 1116, continue
  15. Choose the income type
  16. For RSU, choose passive income, continue
  17. Select the blue button to Add a country
  18. Continue answering questions
