Amending returns for consecutive years

I forgot to include a substantial deductions for tax years 2015 and 2016.

For the 2015 tax year, I used the original tax file to complete the amending interview and am ready to mail the printed 1040x package. For 2016, is there a way to incorporate 2015's 1040x in the 2016 amending interview (alternative #1)? Or, do I need to create a new 2016 tax file, transfer the 2015 1040x tax file,  enter the original 2016 data, and then amend this new 2016 tax file by going through the amending interview to produce a 2016 1040x (alternative #2)

For 2017, the deduction had already been incorporated in the return that I filed last month. However, do I now need to perform alternative #2 to submit a 2017 1040x?
