Forgot to claim employer provided education assistance but filed a 1098-T

If I forgot to claim employer provided educational assistance but filed a 1098-T, and the assistance was less than $5000, do I need to amend my tax return? Federal and state tax returns have already been accepted.

The actual amount of assistance does not matter. What matters is the fact that the employer assistance reduces your actual education expenses paid and your education credit may be affected.

Wait until you receive your federal and state refund. Then, when amendment feature is available, amend and see if Federal and/or State returns are affected. If they are, mail the amendment(s) with the payments. If adding the assistance produces no change, no need to amend.
